Placing implants is a relatively straight-forward and painless procedure. It is usually carried out under simple local anaesthesia, although sedation can be arranged where indicated.
The procedure usually takes around 60 minutes for a single implant, however the time will vary depending upon the specific treatment required. For most patients, a course of simple analgesics is sufficient to control any discomfort experienced afterwards.
Before treatment begins, we will need to complete an assessment including x-rays, photographs and study models. After a thorough assessment, treatment options will be discussed and agreed as part of the consultation process.
Once the implant is placed, it is normally left to heal under the gums for several weeks. During this time you will be able to wear a temporary bridge or denture to keep up appearances. After it has healed, the abutment is screwed into the implant and impressions are taken for the final crown, which is usually fitted around two weeks later. The whole process usually takes around four months to complete for a single implant and crown.
